Michael McGarry is currently President of Socratic Arts, an innovative design and development company in the simulation-based learning space. He is also a Director of the not-for-profit enterprise, Engines for Education. Recently, Mr. McGarry was voted on to the Board of Directors for Opportunity Knocks, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting adolescents and young adults with disabilities.
Mr. McGarry began his career as a high school mathematics teacher and athletic coach. He soon migrated his talents to the business world where he spent sixteen years within IBM in various sales, marketing, and leadership positions. After receiving considerable recognition and building a strong portfolio of sales and sales leadership skills, Mr. McGarry decided to pursue the world of entrepreneurship. He assisted a world-renowned expert in the field of artificial intelligence, cognitive science, and learning, Roger Schank, in building a company from scratch to develop technology-based learning software.
Mr. McGarry has since been recruited several times to help organizations with challenging business development issues. These companies include BellSouth Wireless Data (then Cingular, now AT&T Wireless), Metamor, and the Tom Peters Company. Mr. McGarry's strengths include a passion for leadership, a track record of success in business development in F500 clients and in accessing the executive suite, solving complicated problems, strategic planning, resource utilization, mentoring/coaching, and public speaking.
