Socratic Arts conducted interviews and focus groups with 88 practitioners – both men and women - across all tenure levels and regions. Through these interviews, we were seeking to find out what helped women succeed and what challenges they faced. The analysis led to key recommendations for implementation – many of which were surprising to the client – and not related to learning.

Socratic Arts conducted a mix of focus groups and interviews with consultants across tenures all over the world.
The themes uncovered provided a rich picture of women’s challenges at the firm, notably around: skills and mindsets; desirability of partnership; lifestyle; and opportunities. A major finding was that the skills and mindsets that help people be successful are largely defined by the majority group – men.
Our findings revealed that most impact will come from targeted learning opportunities for all colleagues – not just women. The findings were used to suggest courseware and write performance objectives the client could use to develop skills, change mindsets, and help shift company culture to better support and retain women.
